Kigali City Tour & Genocide Memorial

Rwanda's History Lesson

Learn more about the country's history with a tour of the city of Kigali and a visit to the Genocide Memorial. Pass through some of Kigali's older neighbourhoods and stop for a wonder around a local market. You will also pass Camp Kigali, where 10 Belgian UN Blue Berets were killed on the first day of the genocide and the Hôtel des Mille Collines, the hotel-turned-refugee camp made famous by the movie Hotel Rwanda. Then head to the Kigali Genocide Memorial which honours the memory of the more than one million Rwandans who were killed in the 1994 genocide. Since 2001, more than 250,000 victims of the genocide have been buried here and the serene memorial gardens provide a space for quiet contemplation.

Nyungwe Forest Bird Walk

A delight for birdwatchers

Nyungwe Forest National Park is a delight for birdwatchers, with over 300 bird species recorded, including 27 species endemic to the Albertine Rift. Three of these, the Albertine owlet, red-collared babbler and Rockefeller's sunbird, are unrecorded elsewhere on the eastern side of the Albertine Rift. Bird Watching in Nyungwe Forest National Park is an amazing activity that many people engage in first for its affordability and the amazing experiences. Nyungwe Forest national park is one of the seven important birding areas found in Rwanda that has been considered as an Important Bird Area by the Bird Life International.

Rwanda Golden Monkey Trekking

Meet the Cercopithecus kandti

These little-known primates, Cercopithecus kandti, are a subspecies of the Blue Monkey. You might not get as close to the golden monkeys as you may to the gorillas, but their antics are fun to watch and the bamboo forests, which they inhabit, are an interesting environment. These fast-moving little creatures live in social groups of up to 100 individuals and they are very entertaining as they constantly swing through the bamboo or chase each other in circles all around you. They’re also very pretty, with shiny reddish-gold backs that blend in perfectly with the golden bamboo.
