Sightseeing on foot mean you can leave cars behind while following Stone Town's most narrow, winding streets, and group size is limited to 10 people for personalized service from the guide. Stone Town is the cultural heart of the island and the old city area of Zanzibar City, located on the western shore. The city got its name from the many big multistory buildings made of stone which form the landscape of the old town part. This buildings are actually not made of stone, but with mortar and corals. Although the corals were a good and easily available building material, they are also easily damageable. The original and the best, Safari Blue is a full day excursion on locally made, traditional sailing dhows. Safari Blue starts from the fishing village of Fumba, 30 minutes’ drive from Stone Town. Fumba is situated in the southwest corner of the island and is an ideal starting point to explore Menai Bay, officially designated a Conservation Area in 1998. The Bay has a number of beautiful uninhabited islands and sandbanks and is frequented by humpback and bottlenose dolphins. It’s the most talked about Zanzibar sea adventure, a very special product comprising a full day excursion exploring the very beautiful Conservation area of Menai Bay, south-west of Zanzibar Island by using traditional dhows. Dolphin safari offers you the experience of a lifetime, a chance to see the dolphins and even swim with them, if the environment allows. The seashore of the fishing village Kizimkazi is the home of several pods of humpback and bottlenose dolphins. The dolphins are officially protected by the 420 km2 Menai Bay Conservation Area, which was set up in 1997 to stop the rapid depletion of fish stocks. The dolphins can be spotted on a short boat trip. If you are lucky, you can even have a very special experience of the dolphins swimming so close that you could almost touch them.
